For distance coaching to succeed, coaches need to have a proven approach that they can use to ensure coaching success. Neither teachers nor coaches want to waste time or find themselves in unsuccessful conversations. At the Instructional Coaching Group, we are partnering with Growth Coaching International (GCI) to share coaching processes, skills, and beliefs that will help any coach be more successful.
For more than two decades, developers at GCI have been studying best practices for facilitative coaching. The result is the GROWTH coaching model, an easy to learn and powerful coaching process for guiding individual or multiple coaching conversations. In this virtual course, participants will learn about the principles that guide GROWTH coaching, the GROWTH coaching process itself, and the coaching skills that make powerful online coaching possible.
Our instructional coaching model, the Impact Cycle, is as critical for teachers and coaches because it involves deep coaching related to the complexities of the classroom. During this crisis, however, teachers are focused now on developing online classroom environments to meet specific guidelines and formats versus specific PEERS goals for student growth. The Impact Cycle is more likely to be helpful downstream in the online environment, once students are working in those environments more regularly.
Nonetheless, teachers still need support in this early stage to meet various needs during this crisis. GCI’s GROWTH model can help coaches address teachers’ issues of concern because it involves giving professionals a process for troubleshooting issues as they arise while still operating within the partnership approach that our research recommends.
For educators providing distance coaching, the GROWTH model is an easy to use, powerful way to ensure success.
For individuals with schedule conflicts or who live in different time zones, this workshop is recorded and available for registrants to watch on-demand for 30 days.

What People Are Saying About A Process for Distance Coaching Workshop
“I would recommend this course to a colleague. It was informational and reassuring to know about the Growth Model during Distance Coaching vs the Impact Cycle Coaching during in person coaching. Sharon Thomas was very informative and relatable. I enjoyed taking this course with her. She did a great job of pacing and giving us information and then giving us time to process the information by collaborating.”
“This course takes what can be an abstract concept (coaching), and provides tools to promote meaningful thinking and conversations for improvement.”
“This course was well worth the investment. Not only did we revisit some important coaching skills, I was able to put many of the strategies into practice almost immediately.”
“Practicing with the GROWTH conversation model was the most important part of the course. I participated in an ICG training in 2019 and it’s amazing that this tool applies so readily to online coaching. It’s perfect really. I recommend this course as a safe, trust-filled environment to explore the challenges of distance learning and truly assisting teachers to achieve specific goals and get the support they need.”
“The course was very well organized and delivered. The content met my expectations but my learning exceeded my expectations. Sharon Thomas was responsive to questions, understanding of technology barriers, and always so generous to share her expertise. I would most definitely recommend this course and look forward to taking others.”
“I recommended this course to my colleagues. Three others in our group are currently in another cohort. I would highly recommend that a group take it together, that way they can practice with each other and support each other.”
