A major reason why effective strategies are not implemented successfully is that professional developers struggle to clearly describe those strategies to educators. The Instructional Coaching Group’s newest book, The Instructional Playbook: The Missing Link for Translating Research into Practice, describes what coaches can do to develop the depth of knowledge and clear explanations that will lead to high-quality implementation. When coaches’ explanations lack precision, implementation lacks effectiveness, but a well-designed instructional playbook addresses this issue directly.
This virtual workshop is designed to guide teams or individuals through the creation of a playbook. Participants will examine the rationale for creating an instructional playbook, and participants will learn (a) how to identify the highest-impact teaching strategies, (b) how to create one-page documents that summarize vital information about strategies, and (c) how to craft checklists that identify what teachers and students need to do to implement the strategies successfully. At the end of this workshop, participants will be well on their way to completing their instructional playbook.
For individuals with schedule conflicts or who live in different time zones, this workshop is recorded and available for registrants to watch on-demand for 30 days.

What People Are Saying About The Instructional Playbook Workshop
“Going to this workshop really helped to fill in some areas that we’ve felt have been lacking from our program. This is going to help our coaches focus in on how to give teachers more support. We’ve been able to overcome the biggest challenge, which is shifting the mindset of our program. Now, we just need to create the playbook with our team. I found that this course solidified some very important aspects of instructional coaching that our program was missing. We needed to go back to basics in coaching and create a playbook that makes sense for our school, so this conference has helped us with this.
We now have the ability to create an amazing tool for our school, shift our coaches mindset back to what coaching should focus on, and we have asked Ann to come speak to our coaches to help support them in this transition. This course has been transformative for our program!”
“One big ah-ha for me was the fact that the Playbook is for the coach, not the teacher. The teacher will obviously benefit from the information, but its truly meant to be a “go to” as a coach to provide well thought-out, research-based strategies that teachers can use… I finished the course with a great understanding of each component and what needs to be done moving forward… I loved the format: small class size, opportunities to talk with other participants and “homework” each week. Anne Hoffman also gave us the opportunity to ask questions after the session which I found very helpful.
This was an excellent course! Anne did a fantastic job walking us through the process step-by-step and keeping things in simple terms. Her personality and expertise really made the course fun. I love that I walked away with a small portion of the Playbook already finished. I would highly recommend this course and definitely feel I have the start of what will be a fantastic resource once it’s all put together. Thank you Anne!”
“I enjoyed the entire course. I will use the playbook as I move forward in working with the teachers one on one as well as with future developed professional learning meetings. The overall concept of the playbook was very intriguing. I am particularly fond of this aspect as it alleviates many challenges in working with teachers and helps to improve the targeted skill sets improve strengths. Ann Hoffman was phenomenal.
I would recommend this course for new academic or instructional coaches, especially before they begin the position. This course provides a template for meeting with teachers and helps guide through some of the challenges that are aligned with the position. The resources provided with the course are very significant and relevant. Great opportunity.”
